Tony Collins Cifuentes was born in South Central Los Angeles and grew up in Highland, where he became involved in street violence at a young age. A former probationer, Tony started boxing at the age of 16, and at the age of 20, he began coaching at a local gym. In 2005, Tony opened the Highlanders Boxing Club (HBC) in the City of Highland to provide low-income youth from the Inland Empire opportunities to become young athletes, amateur boxers, and good citizens.
The HBC is a community-based organization that supports positive youth development through an after-school behavioral health sports and youth development program that uses boxing, fitness training, coaching, and mentoring to promote healthier drug and violence-free lifestyles. Tony has never turned away a kid in need and has transformed the lives of thousands of young Americans from some of the Inland Empire’s most challenged neighborhoods.
In addition to helping boxers succeed in the ring as well as supporting local youth, Tony has served as an Executive Committee Member for the San Bernardino County Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council and he continuously contributes to the local community through various charities and fundraisers.
Tony is currently working on his memoirs, There are no Losses, Only Lessons: One Man’s Inspirational Journey from Violence to Faith.
