Our guest speaker at our last meeting was Marisol Sandoval, Operations and Patron Services Manager for the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. Marisol provided a terrific presentation about the history of the San Bernardino Symphony including the grassroots efforts of one young resident to bring local artists together to start the symphony in the 1920s. She also provided a sneak peek of upcoming performances that music lovers will not want to miss, including Movies with the Maestro on October 26 and A Christmas Festival on December 14. In addition to her many administrative responsibilities, Marisol conducts community outreach and works with at-risk youth who are interested in a career in the arts, reflecting Marisol’s commitment to community service. Music and the arts are great ways for community members to come together. Board Meeting Tuesday
Calling all Board Members! We will be holding a Board Meeting directly following our regular Rotary meeting this Tuesday. All Board members, please plan accordingly. All club members are encouraged to attend as well and become more involved in the important business of our great club.
Board of Director and Committee Positions Open for 2025-2026
As you know, each year we nominate and vote for members of our club to serve as club leaders on our Board of Directors. This is a very important responsibility as those elected to the Board play key roles in the operations and overall success of our club. In the coming months, elections will be held for the following positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director (two positions). All club members should consider taking on a role on the Board of Directors as a great way to place Service Above Self. Please give some thought to your service to our club and determine whether you can support and serve our club in an official capacity as a member of the Board. A nominating committee will be formed soon so that we may begin this very important process.
If you are not interested in a position on the Board at this time, please consider volunteering as a Committee Chairperson instead. In the spring, our incoming President for the 2025-2026 Rotary year will be responsible for appointing these key positions, which focus on the work of our club as well as Rotary’s Five Avenues of Service.
If you have questions about the nominating process, elections, or the roles and duties of elected and appointed positions within our club, please contact President Bill Orr or Immediate Past President Brian Pellis. You may also learn more about club roles on the Rotary International website by visiting: https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference/learn-role/club-roles.
Rotary Alumni Reconnect Week
October 7-13 is Rotary’s Alumni Reconnect Week. This is a chance for current and former Rotarians who may have lost touch to reconnect with one another. Several members of our club have been active Rotarians for many years, and in a few cases, decades! We all have a special place in our hearts for those who have departed our club, whether because they’ve moved away or have simply concluded their Rotary service. This is a great reminder of the importance of our relationships with fellow Rotarians and friends. Everyone is encouraged to take this opportunity to reach out to someone who you might like to reunite with, check up on, or simply chat about old times. Please consider making that call or sending that e-mail or letter to reconnect and reunite with alumni and remind them that they will always be an important part of our Rotary family.
Community Economic Development Month
October is Rotary’s Community and Economic Development Month. Did you know that about ONE BILLION people live on less than $1.00 a day, which is considered by the international community as extreme poverty? Rotary’s work on economic and community development seeks to reduce poverty in underserved communities through training, job creation and improvement, vocational instruction, and access to financial management solutions. The Rotary Foundation enables Rotarians to invest in people by creating sustainable, measurable, and long-term economic improvements in their communities and livelihoods by:
1. Building the capacity of entrepreneurs, community leaders, local organizations, and community networks to support economic development in impoverished communities;
2. Developing opportunities for productive work;
3. Reducing poverty in under-served communities;
4. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to economic and community development.
As always, if you would like to support this important Rotary mission or any of the other critical projects of Rotary, please consider donating to Rotary by visiting: https://my.rotary.org/en/donate.
