President's Message

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

During our meeting two weeks ago, we were delighted to hear from our very own Larry Asmus, who proudly serves and represents us on the San Bernardino County Airport Commission.  Larry provided an informative and very interesting discussion and video presentation about the San Bernardino County Department of Airports, which operates six-county-owned airfields located in Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow-Daggett, Chino, Needles, and Twentynine Palms.  These airports provide a vital link to remote parts of the County and support much-needed general aviation services to pilots.  The County’s airports have a storied history, including use as Army Air Force bases during World War II and training facilities for military pilots.  As you may know, Larry himself is a former United States Navy pilot and certainly has a wealth of knowledge and expertise related to aviation that serves our County well given his position on this important commission.  If you’d like to learn more about the Department of Airports, please click here: https://airports.sbcounty.gov/.  Thank you Larry for a wonderful presentation!

Thanking our Honored Veterans

To all of our Rotarian veterans, to all veterans of our great nation, and to all who made the ultimate sacrifice, we thank you for your service, your devotion, your valor, and your commitment to protecting and preserving our freedom and our security.  Although we did not meet as a club this past week and therefore could not thank them in person, we never forget our honored veterans.  Freedom is never free, and we are forever indebted to you.

Fantastic Opportunity to Become a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow or Level Up

In honor of Rotary Foundation month, Douglas and Nora MacLellan of the Rotary Club of La Quinta are generously offering all Rotarians in District 5330 a wonderful opportunity to become a Paul Harris Fellow or to level up their Paul Harris recognition to the next level.  Now through November 30, 2024, Mr. and Mrs. MacLellan will donate up to 500 matching Paul Harris points for up to $500 contributed by every Rotarian in our District to the Rotary Foundation Annual Fund and/or Polio Plus Fund.

More detailed information was sent to all Club members via email on Thursday, November 14 and we will be discussing this briefly along with a brief talk about the Rotary Foundation during our upcoming meeting this Tuesday.  Until then, if you’d like to learn more about the various levels of Rotary sponsorship, click here:  https://www.rotary.org/en/donate/recognition.

If you are ready to donate, please do so online before November 30th at https://my.rotary.org/en/donate, and be sure to select the Annual Fund and/or Polio Plus for Paul Harris Fellowship recognition.  As you know, Rotary's great work around the world would not be achievable without generous donations big and small made to the Rotary Foundation.  Thank you for considering Rotary as part of your 2024 charitable giving plans.

President, Bill Orr 2024-2025

Giving Thanks and Reflecting on Our Rotary Mission

Every day is truly a blessing.  Sometimes we take important things for granted and we don’t always enjoy the great opportunities we have while we can.  As Thanksgiving approaches, let’s all take the time to count our many blessings, express our sincere gratitude for those who hold a special place in our lives, and be thankful for all of the wonderful things we have.

In addition to our personal reasons for giving thanks, as Rotarians we have much to be thankful for regarding our ability to serve and our great organization.  Please consider and appreciate the many contributions that Rotarians make in our community and around the world.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
The eradication of Polio in the world is nearly complete due in large part to the efforts of Rotary. There are only two countries remaining with active cases of Polio, and it is Rotarians that have made this possible and will continue the fight until we have completed the task to rid the world of Polio.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
Our hard work and financial support of The Rotary Foundation continue to serve to promote peace; fight disease; provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene; save mothers and children; support education; grow local economies; and protect the environment.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
Our ideals, values, and efforts provide service to others; promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, processional, and community leaders.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
As a global network that strives to build a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We support literacy to improve the lives of children and adults around the world, giving them hope for a better future through education and personal achievement.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We have the opportunity to serve.  We know of many worthy causes, many opportunities to volunteer, and we know that members of our Rotary Club have made a huge impact in our local and international communities.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We invest in young people in our own community. Through our Rotary Life Program, San Bernardino High School Interact Club, and other youth support mechanisms, we support children and young adults in our own community.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We have the opportunity to meet, share a good meal, hear from wonderful guest speakers, network, and enjoy the fellowship of Rotarians. We have many riches to share with each other.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We have the ability to raise the funds needed and the time and ability to support programs that make a difference in the lives of children and families in our local and international communities.
We as Rotarians are thankful that…
We can achieve our motto of “Service Above Self” each and every day, in our own special way.
We as Rotarians appreciate that…
There are many people around the world who are thankful for Rotarians and the amazing work the Rotary organization does to foster positive change around the world and improve the lives of so many.

Happy Thanksgiving!
