Kayla “KK” Aulis is a dynamic athlete from Highland, California, whose passion for swimming began at age seven. Inspired by her older sister’s success in the pool, Kayla quickly found her own lane, joining the Special Olympics at just eight years old. From that moment, she has been making waves in the sport and in her community.

A graduate of Citrus Valley High School, Kayla competed on her school swim team and earned recognition as the 2019 California State High School Paralympic Division Champion in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Her favorite events include the 50 Butterfly and 100 Individual Medley, where her determination and competitive spirit shine.

Kayla is proudly part of USA Down Syndrome Swimming, known as the T21 Swim Warriors, a team of athletes who train and compete at national and international levels. She represented Special Olympics Southern California at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, where she raced alongside teammates and celebrated the joy of inclusion and competition.

Beyond the pool, Kayla’s interests are as diverse as her talents. She enjoys dog training, horseback riding, and boxing workouts, which keep her strong and energized. Family plays a central role in her journey—her parents, Gary and Angela, and her sister have been her biggest supporters, cheering her on at every meet and helping her reach her goals.

Kayla’s story is one of resilience, joy, and empowerment. She embodies the Special Olympics mission by proving that athletes with intellectual disabilities can compete at the highest levels while inspiring others to embrace their own strengths. Whether she’s racing for a medal or encouraging younger athletes to dive in, Kayla “KK” Aulis is a true champion in and out of the water.
